Jonas Mago, a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in the study of contemplative practices and their effects on consciousness. His research focuses on advanced meditators (specifically Jhana meditation), collective Charismatic Christian prayer, and psychedelic experiences. For all of these practices, Jonas is exploring how they shape human flourishing and how they may relate to concepts such as liberation, self-transcendence, or insight. To do so, Jonas integrates state-of-the-art neuroimaging (EEG, fMRI) with theoretical and computational modeling approaches, particularly rooted in the predictive processing and active inference frameworks. Passionate about bridging theory, empiricism, and lived experience, Jonas is spearheading the emerging field of computational neurophenomenology, an interdisciplinary field that integrates computational modeling, neuroimaging, and phenomenological interviewing to advance our understanding of the human brain and mind. As a certified Unified Mindfulness meditation coach, he combines his academic pursuits with a deep commitment to the experiential exploration, practice, and teaching of contemplative methods that enhance mental clarity and well-being.
